Big Brothers and Sisters Prepares for Inaugural Rubber Duckie Regaffle
Lebanon, OH- In the past few weeks, staff and volunteers from Big Brothers and Sisters of Warren and Clinton Counties have been preparing for the agency’s inaugural Rubber Duckie Regaffle. This event is set to take place this Sunday, August 10th, at The Beach Waterpark, and will involve the release of 1,500 rubber ducks into The Beach’s Lazy Miami River. Big Brothers and Sisters is selling raffle tickets for $5 per ticket, and the purchaser of the raffle ticket also gets their choice of a souvenir duck. Top prizes for the raffle include a $500 gift card to the Apple Store, $250 to Best Buy, and $150 to Toys R Us. The $5 raffle ticket purchase also pays for the sponsorship of a BBBS child in the rubber duck race. The children matched with the winning ducks will win various toy prizes, and each child will receive a gift bag. BBBS is also selling discounted tickets to The Beach Waterpark for the day of the event for $12 (price of admission at the gate will be $27.99). The funds raised for this event will go toward Big Brothers and Sisters’ School Based Mentoring program. In the School Based Mentoring program, “Bigs” visit their “Littles” at the child’s school once a week for an hour. Parents and teachers of the children in these programs report improvements in grades and behavior. BBBS currently runs School Based programs in Kings, Lebanon, Franklin, and Mason school districts, and the agency is in dire need of “Bigs” for the upcoming school year.
Staff and volunteers have been selling tickets for the Regaffle throughout the past month, and just last week, BBBS received shipment of 1,500 rubber ducks to be used in the duck race. Volunteers and staff assembled on Monday, August 4th, to begin numbering the ducks to be used in the race. Last week, BBBS also received shipment of a new addition to their souvenir ducks. “Bat Duck” joins “Tiger Duck”, “Bobbin Buddy”, “Fitness Girl Duck”, and “Camo Duck” as this year’s choice of souvenir ducks that are included in the purchase of a raffle ticket. Information on where and how to purchase tickets, pictures of available souvenir ducks, and information on how to volunteer with BBBS can be found at www.bbbswarren.org, or by calling 513-932-3966/937-382-2210.
